Roll of Fame Honoree –
Julian A. Martinez
Bakersfield
Mexican-American Bowling League
Gold Medallion
He started
bowling at the age of 5. He was in a bantam
league that consisted of three members.
Sometimes one of the members was his sister, two
years younger than Julian at Freddie’s Top of
the Hill Bowling Center. That center has long
since been torn down. After that he bowled at
East Hill Lanes where he had the opportunity to
bowl with some pro bowlers during their circuit
tour. Some of the pro bowlers he met and bowled
with were Randy Peterson, Walter-Ray Williams
JR, Pete Weber and Art Trask. JA grew up in that
bowling house learning the ins and outs of
scoring which in those days was all done
manually. Of course now everything is
computerized.
Julian rolled
his first sanctioned 300 game on March 9, 1997
and has had almost one every year since then;
his 7th and last one coming on April
12th of this year at Rodeo Lanes, in
Fresno, Ca. He also has 11 strikes in a row
starting in the 2nd frame for a 290
game and a 1010 series (4 games).
During his
twenty-five years of bowling his parents, JP &
Rita, encouraged his growth in bowling by taking
him to various tournaments in LA for his age
group. That experience helped him excel more in
attitude and etiquette. It also helped him get a
scholarship from the City Bowling Association
his senior year in school.
JP & Rita
are very proud of him. The rest as they say is
history...
Congratulations to Gold Member Honoree, Julian
A. Martinez.
