Roll of Fame Honoree – Ismael "Mayo" Jaso
Bakersfield
Mexican-American Bowling League
Silver Medallion
Mayo’s bowling
history goes back almost 30 years. He stumbled
into it through some friends and quickly became
hooked. He started in a league once a week, and
soon enough he was bowling 5x's a week. He
watched, learned, and practiced until he
eventually mastered the sport of bowling.
Within that
time, he taught all six of his daughters to bowl
including Evelina, Michal and Ursula the
youngest. He has been actively involved with
the youth league's and taught many of his
current league competitors a thing or two.
He was
aggressive in getting donations and sponsor's
for the local Mexican-American tournaments
through the 1980's. Always bringing in teams
and spreading his love of bowling to whatever
league or tournaments he is involved in.
All his
bowling and love paid off on October 26, 2001
when he finally bowled his perfect game. You
would think at 63 years of age he would finally
slow down, instead he is a YABA coach for the
Bakersfield Brats youth league, an ABC Director,
and still bringing in teams, sponsors, and
donations for any league or tournament he is
involved in. He truly loves this sport.
This write-up
was written by his daughter Ursula.
